The 14th annual Day Without Shoes Drive is underway across Lincoln. The People’s City Mission and Cornhusker Bank are again coming together to collect shoes for homeless people.
Pastor Tom Barber is CEO of the Mission and tells KLIN News they are looking for new or gently used shoes in all sizes, but they especially need big and small pairs. “We need kids shoes, we need extra large shoes, usually 13-16 sized. They are harder to come by.”
Shoes can be dropped off at any bank location, the shelter or more than 100 collections boxes across the city until April 14. Click here to see the locations of the drop-off sites. “Shoes are so important to people that are struggling, particularly for the homeless because many don’t have cars and they have to walk around,” Barber says. “Having a good pair of shoes makes all the difference in the world.”
Last year more than 44,000 pairs of shoes were collected. On Wednesday Barber, bank officials and community leaders will walk from the Cornhusker Bank headquarters at 84th and O Street to the People’s City Mission Help Center at 68th and P Street to illustrate the impact a pair of shoes can have on a person’s life.
