Lincoln Police say a 74-year-old woman lost $25,000 in a online bitcoin scam. Captain Todd Kocian says while using the Facebook Marketplace to buy and sell items she discovered her account had been hacked.

“She called what she thought was the customer service number and eventually was instructed to withdraw $25,000 and provide a copy of her driver’s license along with her social security number,” Kocian says.

“After making the withdrawal, she converted the cash to Bitcoin as instructed, Kocian says.  The woman realized she was being scammed when the man on the phone asked her to make another withdrawal.
