A 24-year-old York man was arrested Monday afternoon after a Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputy caught him speeding in a vehicle that had no license plates. Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the deputy tried to stop a 2012 Ford Fusion near NW 98th and West ‘O’ around 11:45 a.m. for going 20 miles an hour over the speed limit.
Houchin says the car also had no license plates or in transit stickers. “The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit occurred for about three minutes, but was terminated for public safety concerns.” “He ran a stop sign, and we’re very lucky that there wasn’t an accident,” Houchin says.
A plain clothes deputy in an unmarked vehicle spotted the car near SW 40th and West Van Dorn. Other deputies also arrived and the vehicle was eventually spotted at gas station near 17th and Washington. “At that time deputies swarmed in and took him into custody without incident.” Houchin says during a search of the car deputies found a loaded handgun on the floor and a small amount of marijuana.
Fonseca was arrested for felony flee to avoid arrest, possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony, willful reckless driving, possession of marijuana and several other traffic violations. “He put people Lancaster County in danger and anytime there is a pursuit it puts law enforcement in danger.”
