Education funding and property tax relief have been widely discussed in legislative and education circles in the past few years. The challenge for many people is understanding all of the components involved.
The OpenSky Policy Institute recently completed an interactive web page that profiles all of Nebraska’s 244 school districts and presents financial information as well as student demographics and achievements.

Rebecca Firestone, OpenSky Executive Director told KLIN News, “Property taxes, how we pay for our schools in Nebraska to go to to be able to understand all of the different variables that school districts are managing when they are thinking about funding their budgets.”
Across all districts from 2022-23 to 2023-24, general fund expenditures grew 3.65%. 40 districts received less state aid in 2023-24 than they received in 2022-23. 14 districts had general fund levies greater than $1.00 in 2023-24, down from 40 in 2022-23.
