An Omaha man is facing a long list of charges following a pursuit and crash Wednesday evening. The patrol says just before 7:00 p.m. a trooper attempted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Monte Carlo for driving without license plates on westbound Interstate 80 near the West Center Road interchange.
The driver refused to stop and exited I-80 on West Center. The trooper pursued for a short distance, but discontinued the pursuit out of concern for public safety. The suspect vehicle continued driving recklessly as it turned eastbound onto West Center Road. A short time later, the trooper observed several vehicles that had been side-swiped and a crash that had occurred near 106th and West Center.
The patrol says the Monte Carlo struck a utility pole and came to a stop in a yard. The driver had fled the scene on foot. A 911 call then reported that a man was hiding in landscaping in a nearby yard.
Troopers and Omaha Police Officers then located the man. He refused repeated commands to come out of the yard and a trooper deployed pepperball and the man surrendered without further incident. 45 year old William Dimauro was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, driving under suspension, leaving the scene of an accident and other traffic violations.
He also had multiple outstanding warrants. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail.
