Lincoln firefighters battled a large grass fire south of  33rd and Superior shortly after 1:30 Sunday afternoon.  “Total burned is about 2-3 acres,” says LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman. “There’s numerous transient camps back there and this fire spread due to the wind conditions.”

Winds were gusting to 30 mph at the time.  Lierman says due to the rough terrain firefighters from Raymond, Southwest and the National Guard assisted them. LFR crews have been been called back twice since Saturday after the grass re-ignited.

The first was around 3:30 Monday morning and then again at 10:30 a.m. There were no injuries.
