Thursday is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day. KLIN News tagged along with Lincoln High SRO Nolan Hauser to find out what a typical day is like in his life.  “I get here and the first thing I do is stand at the front door, I greet students and see who’s here.”

He also checks with the staff to see if they have any needs or any concerns.  Hauser has been roaming the halls of Lincoln High School for the past two years.  He says he wants students to feel comfortable with him in the school each day.

“Having general conversations with the students gives them the ability to know me as a person and not as the officer,” Hauser says.  “So then they can say you know what I can talk to you when I am having trouble.”

Payton Colburn is a freshman and says Officer Hauser has had an impact on him during his first year at Lincoln High. “He’s helped me through a little bit going on during the school year. If you are just having a rough day, you can go to him to talk to or if you just want to stop in to say hi, he’s there.”

LPS has 14 SRO’s in all middle and high schools.
