Two Escape From Burning House In Waverly

By Tom Stanton Jan 22, 2024 | 11:12 AM

A house in Waverly was destroyed by fire early Monday morning. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says several area fire departments responded to the home near 149th and Castlewood around 4:15 a.m.

“It was fully engulfed and there were people inside,” Houchin says.  A woman woke up to the smell of the smoke and went downstairs to get her son and they were able to get escape unharmed. The house was destroyed and was valued at $350,000.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but Houchin says it appears to be accidental.  The state fire marshal is handling the investigation.
