Lincoln firefighters battled frigid temperatures and slick conditions while putting out a fire at a home near 56th and Oldham just after 5:00 Monday morning. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says no one was living in the house.
“It’s used mostly for storage, so it was pretty full of personal items. They got the fire under control quickly.” She says the fire started in the basement and the house is a total loss. Due to the extreme conditions, a second alarm was called to get more crews to the scene.
Lierman says one firefighter suffered a minor injury due to the slippery conditions. “The firefighters are equipped with toe cleats to help them but you have to be really careful with the ice.” She tells KLIN News.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
