Heavy snow combined with strong northwest winds will lead to dangerous travel conditions today into tonight. Additional snow accumulations today are expected to be in the 2 to 3 inch range with many drifts on roadways. Near blizzard conditions with ¼ mile visibility will be possible at times, especially in open areas.

Dangerous cold will also set in, with wind chill values dropping to 20 to 30 below zero tonight.

Hazardous to dangerous travel conditions could persist into Saturday. Ground blizzard conditions could develop north of Interstate 80, with northerly wind gusts up to 50 mph.

The dangerous cold will persist through Tuesday with wind chill values remaining in the 25 to 35 below zero range, even during the daytime hours. The coldest morning will be Sunday, when wind chills will range from 40 to 50 below zero for many.

The city of Lincoln announced another snow emergency. Parking is banned on both sides of emergency snow routes, arterial streets, school and bus routes.

A residential parking ban means that parking is banned only on the even numbered side of residential streets.  A residential parking ban applies to streets that are not emergency snow routes, arterials or bus routes or included in a snow removal district.
