A local civic leader hailing from North Omaha has announced he will run for U.S. Senate.
Preston Love Jr. is a community advocate, youth educator, and economic development organizer. His professional career spans from serving as an IBM marketing executive, the city of Atlanta’s commissioner of planning in the 1980’s, and the national campaign manager of Jesse Jackson’s 1984 presidential campaign. Preston is currently an adjunct professor for the University of Nebraska-Omaha and a lecturer in Black Histories.
The North-O native community leader will run on the Democratic ticket, and face off against incumbent, appointed Senator and former Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts.
Love is set to announce his candidacy for the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, January 17th, at The Venue at Highlander Accelerator 2120 N 30th St, at 11 a.m.
He will deliver remarks on this campaign surrounded by state senators, city officials, and community partners.

I’m running for Senate to put people over politics and people over privilege. It’s time for leadership that works to bridge the economic, partisan, geographic, and racial gaps that are growing in our country and our state. I’m ready to represent all Nebraskans – not just the ones who agree with me or look like me. I’m running to bridge the gaps that divide us. That’s what my candidacy is about, that’s what my entire career has been about, and that’s what I’ll prioritize as your Senator. I’m excited to celebrate this announcement with my supporters on Wednesday and build the movement we need to win this race.
