As Lincoln residents dig out from the winter storm the U-S Postal Service is asking for cooperation to allow mail carriers do their jobs.  “If you have a front porch mailbox, walkways should be cleared of snow and ice and allow enough traction to avoid slips, trips or falls,” says spokesman Mark Inglett.

He says if you have a curbside mailbox keep the approach to and exit from the mailbox clear of snow or any other obstacles, like trash cans and other vehicles.  “The carrier needs to get in, and then out, without leaving the vehicle or backing up.”

The postal service says sidewalks need to be scooped as well so carriers can safely get to your mailbox. Inglett says they will do their best to deliver your mail, but if there are no clear paths to the mailboxes carriers will skip your home and try and come back the next day.

Customers with questions or comments about their mail service can call toll-free 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777).
