Coin Valued At $2,000 Found In Salvation Army Kettle

By Tom Stanton Dec 21, 2023 | 2:02 PM

The Salvation Army found quite a surprise in one of their red kettles.  Captain Kelsey Moreno tells KLIN News an anonymous donor dropped an American Gold Buffalo Coin into the kettle at Scheels.

The coin is ounce of pure gold and is valued at more than $2,000.  “The donor wants to remain anonymous, but he gave it in hopes that it will inspire others to give generously,”  Moreno says.  She says the Tree of Lights Campaign has currently raised about 70% of the 2023 goal of $670,000.00. Money raised supports Christmas assistance, as well as programs that benefit the community all year long.

Moreno says community resources like the food pantry, the Shield Fine Arts Academy and Afterschool Programs along with other social service programs supporting those in need depend on the Tree of Lights Campaign.

Donations to the 2023 Tree of Lights campaign can be dropped into the red kettles through 6 p.m. on December 23rd, can be made online at www.lincolnredkettle.org or can be mailed to 2625 Potter Street.
