Lincoln’s largest homeless shelter will host a memorial service Thursday night for the 20 people from their shelter who have died in the past year. DeeJay Burton is the chaplain at the People’s City Mission and tells KLIN News the service takes place each year on the winter solstice,  the longest night of the year.

“We honor those who have passed away that are dealing with homelessness.  Those names will be put on our back wall to show them honor and give them a memorial.”  Burton  says many of those who have passed away don’t have family members to be there for the service.

He says the public is invited to come and join them.  It begins at 7:00 and refreshments will be served.
