Lincoln Police are investigating after a man was found dead inside his house just north of Memorial Stadium Tuesday afternoon. Assistant Chief Jason Stille says officers went to the house near 12th and New Hampshire around 4:40 p.m. to do a welfare check.
“When they arrived, officers attempted to make contact, but no one responded. They also smelled natural gas coming from the home and requested assistance from LFR.” Stille says they shut the gas stove off and once the air quality improved LFR crews went inside and found 45- year-old Alaric Harden. He was given medical treatment on scene and taken to the hospital.
“When LFR went back into the home, they found a 76-year-old man who had been deceased,” Stille says. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday morning. “It should provide more clarity on manner and cause of death, as well as a timeline for when he died.”
Stille believes the man had been dead for at few days. After Harden was released from the hospital he was arrested and booked into the Lancaster County Jail for removing or concealing human remains.
Stille says the relationship between Harden and the man found dead is unclear and he believes Harden may have been a transient. Anyone with information that could help in this case is asked to call 402-441-6000 or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
