A homecoming food drive that benefits needy UNL students is underway. In August the university opened a second Husker Pantry location on East Campus to serve a growing number of students. The other location is on City Campus.
Program Coordinator Megan Patel tells KLIN News they serve about 200 students a week and all donations will help them restock their shelves. “Our goal is to get at least three thousand items. People can donate in a variety of ways.” One is through the pantry’s Amazon wish list on their website.
“So people can choose which items they would like to purchase and those will get shipped directly to the pantry,” Patel says. Donations can also be dropped off in one of the 20 donation bins around campus. Husker Pantry provides food, hygiene items and school supplies for any student each week.
“Some of the top items we need right now would be rice and cereal and any kind of hygiene item like shampoo, body wash and bar soap, those are all super popular,” Patel says.
The Husker Pantry food drive will continue until Friday, the day before Nebraska’s game against Northwestern.
