Lincoln Police were called to NW 12th and W. Cornhusker around 2:30 Friday morning on a report of an unoccupied Jeep on fire. Captain Todd Kocian says officers spoke with a man who said he was northbound on NW 12th when he saw his lane was closed due to construction.
“He slowed to a stop to wait for other traffic and was sideswiped by a silver Chevy Tahoe and rear-ended by the Jeep,” Kocian says. “After the collision, the Jeep left the road and struck a concrete pillar under the bridge and caught fire.
The man told police a woman in the Jeep got out, ran across the road and got into a white vehicle that left the scene. He described her as light-skinned, with curly hair, 120-130 pounds and 6’0″” tall.
The man who called police suffered a minor neck injury that did not require hospitalization. LPD is still working to contact the owner of the Jeep. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600
