Lincoln Police were called to the 700 block of W Dawes Street on a report of a suspicious vehicle around 4 Tuesday morning. The caller stated there was an SUV driving on lawns. Police arrived to find a Chevy Trailblazer stopped in the street blocking W Dawes.
The SUV then started driving through yards. The driver turned around abruptly and accelerated towards the cruiser. The officer was still in the vehicle when the SUV hit it head on. Air bags were deployed and the officer was able to get out of the cruiser as the SUV was reversing and accelerating back toward the cruiser.

The officer took cover and the SUV continued to drive though yards until it became disabled in a backyard. The officer contacted the driver, a 61 year old man and took him into custody.
The officer sustained cuts and swelling to an arm and was treated and released from a hospital. The 61 year old driver was taken to a hospital by LFR. He remains hospitalized due to possible substances ingestion and further evaluation. Charges are pending. Damage estimates are still be totaled and the cruiser is likely totaled.
