An investigation is underway after vandals damaged the National Champions statue outside the east entrance of Memorial Stadium and the Phi Gamma Delta Frat House.
UNL Police Captain John Backer tells KLIN News the statue was spray painted in several areas and the front doors and window of the fraternity house at 14th and R were also spray painted. “We know that it occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday and we are continuing to review camera footage and check other leads to determine if we can identify the person responsible.”
Backer says damage to the statue is around $2,000 and occurred around 2:30 a.m. Damage to the fraternity house is estimated at $500 and happened about a half hour later. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lancaster County Stoppers or submit a tip on any UNL websites.
