Lincoln residents disposed of 43 pounds of unwanted and expired prescriptions during National Drug Take Back Day on October 28.  The event was held in the parking lot of Hy-Vee at 50th and ‘O’ Street.

Emily Murray is with DEA’s Omaha Division and says more than 20,000 pounds was collected at 174 sites in four of the states in their region.  She says events like these are critical to eliminating potential dangers from homes.

“There are studies out there that show that a lot of people who have come across or have been abusing prescription medications it all got started because they found something in someone’s house or they took it from a medicine cabinet or from a friend or family member.”

All of the medications were collected with no questions asked and taken to various disposal sites and incinerated.
