Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews responded to a fire in the basement of a home near NW 44th and Huntington Avenue around 8:15 Tuesday night. Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the residents were out of town when the fire broke out around 8:15 p.m.
She says a neighbor was using a garden hose to try and put out the flames. “When our crews arrived there was heavy smoke. They made a direct attack and had the fire out quickly.” Lierman says investigators found suspicious burn marks inside the basement, leading them to believe the fire may have been intentionally set.
Damage is estimated at $115,000 to the house and $50,000 to the contents.
