Former Omaha mayor and Douglas County Commissioner Mike Boyle died Monday morning following health  complications  Boyle was 77.

Boyle’s name was well known in the Nebraska Democratic Party and is wife, Anne Boyle served as the State Democratic Party chair for many years and was public service commissioner. She died in 2019.

Boyle was elected Omaha mayor in 1981 and re-elected in 1985. A recall effort in 1986 removed him from office. He was elected to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners in 1997.

Governor Pete Ricketts issued a statement following news that Douglas County Commissioner and former Omaha Mayor Mike Boyle had passed away.

“From city government to county board, Mike devoted his life to serving the people of our state,” said Governor Ricketts. “His public service and his fair-mindedness will long be remembered by Nebraskans. Susanne and I are mourning Mike’s passing and encourage Nebraskans to keep the Boyle family in your prayers.”

Republican U.S. Senator Deb Fischer released the following statement regarding the passing of former Omaha Mayor and Douglas County Commissioner Mike Boyle.

“Mike Boyle was a dedicated public servant who served his community in a number of capacities. He was always a gracious advocate and stalwart champion for his constituents. We had a good relationship and worked together to address many important issues facing Nebraskans. I extend my deepest condolences to his family for their loss.”
