Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a van with California plates around 3:30 Thursday afternoon on I-80 west of Lincoln for following too closely.  Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says during the stop a deputy smelled marijuana.

“The driver gave consent to search the van.  In the back were three oversized wooded shipping crates,” Houchin says.  “Inside the crates was 435 pounds of marijuana.”  Deputies also found  more than 12,000 pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes, 12.69 pounds of THC edibles and nearly 5,400 THC cartridges.

Houchin says the van was headed from California to New York.  Through their investigation Houchin says the learned the driver was a carrier and did not know what he was hauling.  The driver was released, but the investigation is continuing.
