Lincoln Police say the 27-year-old Chicago man who was shot during a struggle with Lincoln Police officers at the bus depot near 52nd and Superior early Tuesday morning has been released from the hospital.
Simon Kafka was taken to the Lancaster County Jail Wednesday afternoon and booked for resisting arrest, first-degree assault on an officer and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony. Police were called to the bus depot around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday for a man who had no ticket and was refusing to get off the bus.
LPD says when officers encountered Kafka in the back of the bus he began fighting with the officers and lunged at one of the officers with a knife and stabbed him in the neck. Police Chief Michon Morrow say Kafka then tried to grab the officer’s gun and was shot once by a second officer.
Simon Kafka, 27, was refusing to get off a bus at the depot near 52nd and Superior streets around 12:15 a.m. Morrow says the injured officer was also taken to a hospital and has since been released and is hopeful he can return to service in the near future.
