A hotel in the heart of downtown Lincoln was evacuated for several hours Tuesday afternoon.

Lincoln Fire and Rescue were called to the Kindler Hotel when two guest-room carbon monoxide alarms were activated. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman said crews did have positive gas readings, prompting the precautionary evacuation of both the hotel and the neighboring restaurant Misty’s .

Lierman explained, “Crews were able to pinpoint levels to a mechanical room on the second floor of the hotel that contained some water heaters. Those water heaters had a digital readout that said blocked air intake. They suspected that was the cause.”

After being shut down, levels started to decline. Indicating that the source of the leak had been secured. A Blackhills mechanic was called in to assist with the situation.

The evacuation lasted approximately three hours, and business returned to normal. No injuries were reported.
