Husker fans will commemorate this weekend the 50th anniversary of a special musical troupe to the University.

The Scarlet and Cream Singers was started by Ray Miller in 1972 in conjunction with the Nebraska Alumni Association. The singing collective have represented the University of Nebraska around the nation and the world.

To celebrate a half decade of entertainment, 87 former Scarlett and Cream members will reunite and perform the National Anthem at this weekends Husker game against Michigan. Other activities throughout the weekend will include campus tours, a private dinner at Screamers Restaurant in the Haymarket and a private tailgate at the AKRS Champions Club on September 30th.

KLIN News spoke with Travis Turpin, a former six year member of the group, who said, “We capped it off at 87 singers, but were having 200-300 people coming back for it. Its gonna be a big event.”

“We’re thrilled to host this group of alumni,” said Shelley Zaborowski, Nebraska Alumni Association executive director and former Scarlet and Cream program coordinator. “It is always a joy to bring loyal alumni back to campus to celebrate their achievements and honor their past, present and future dedication to the university.”
