City Council To Look At Helping Bars, Restaurants During Husker Games

By News Sep 30, 2020 | 11:24 AM

Nebraska’s sea of red inside Memorial Stadium is dried up after the Big Ten’s decision to have football return this fall.  But the Lincoln City Council may take a step and allow the ocean to spill over into Lincoln streets.

Councilman Roy Christensen says they may expand the special designated license to allow businesses to expand on to streets proximal to their property.

“We’re trying to find ways to help business- restaurants and bars – in downtown areas especially take advantage of the excitement of Husker football season,” he said.

The expansion would allow businesses to serve food and drinks on streets that would be allowed to be closed on gamedays.

“We don’t want people to act in irresponsible, unsafe ways but we want them to enjoy the game day experience.”

Christensen made his comments on KLIN’s Drive Time Lincoln with host Michael Reed.
