Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews helped ventilate an architectural business following an evacuation Wednesday morning.
At 8:44 a.m. LFR was called out to Mapes Canopies, located near North 56th Street and Alvo Road, after an electrical malfunction caused a power outage and smoke filled the building.
LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman told KLIN News, “They had an electrical malfunction in one of the transformers. Their crews put it out with an extinguisher, and the power was shut down. But it did create a lot of smoke in the building, so they evacuated.” Lierman added that no human error was involved, “It was just a malfunction. Nothing they did or anything.”
LFR crews assisted in ventilating the building to disperse the smoke. No injuries were reported, and operations at the business returned to normal.
An electrician has been called in to investigate the root cause of the transformer malfunction.
