The Lancaster County Attorney’s Office has upgraded charges against a man for an assault that turned deadly last month in downtown Lincoln.  22-year-old Angel Rodriguez Alvis of Lincoln was arrested after police say he got out of a car near 13th and P Streets around 1:00 a.m. on August 27th and punched 55-year-old James Baylor in the face.

Police say Baylor fell back and hit his head on the sidewalk.  He died from his injuries on September 5.   Lincoln Police say they are now investigating the assault as a homicide.  At a hearing Tuesday, the Lancaster County Attorney’s Office upgraded charges against Alvis to manslaughter and first degree assault.
