In an effort to manage hospital staffing issues across Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says the state is once again setting up a transfer center.

“With the staffing emergency we have right now, we want to set up that transfer center similar to what we had last year so we can efficiently move people between hospitals or find that hospital bed for people who need that acute care.”

The announcement comes nearly a week after Ricketts declared a staffing emergency for hospitals.   Ricketts says as of Wednesday there were 342 COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide.  Hospitals capacity is higher now than last fall.    He says the state has also reached a milestone with more than one million Nebraskans now fully vaccinated.

DHHS Incident Commander Angie Ling says larger hospitals are 85-100 percent full with COVID patients and other adults and children needing other care.   The rising numbers continue to impact hospital staff.  “We can have all the beds in the world, but if we don’t have staff, it means nothing,” Ling says.  She says staff are being asked to do much more than ever.
