The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a crash that involved a school bus Tuesday morning on Highway 2 east of Palmyra that injured nine students. It happened around 7:35 a.m. one mile east of Palmyra.
The preliminary investigation shows the the bus was westbound on Highway 2 when it was slowing to turn into a driveway. The patrol says a westbound Ford F-150 failed to slow down and rear-ended the bus causing it to roll onto its side in a ditch.
Troopers along with Otoe County Sheriff’s Deputies and rescue crews from Palmyra, Douglas, Syracuse, and Nebraska City all responded. The patrol says nine students were found with mostly minor injuries. All of the students, who are between the ages of 5 and 14, were transported to Bryan Health Center West Campus for treatment. A Bryan Health spokesperson says one patient was admitted and two patients were being assessed.
All of the other patients were treated and sent home. Both drivers involved were also transported with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
