A Lincoln Police officer is recovering after an assault around 1 a.m. Saturday at 28th and Cedar.
An officer saw 48 year old Kevin Goodie make an illegal turn near 27th and Van Dorn. The officer conducted a traffic stop and Goodie took off running and jumped a fence into a back yard. The officer followed and after jumping the fence, Goodie ran at him with his hands in the air. The two men struggled and the officer struck his head. Goodie was eventually taken into custody.
The officer suspected that Goodie was under the influence of alcohol and found an open beer bottle in his SUV.
The officer was transported to a hospital by another officer and he had a concussion. Goodie was also taken to a hospital by ambulance after reporting a medical episode.
Goodie refused a blood draw for alcohol so a search warrant was granted and served to obtain the test.
After Goodie was released from the hospital, he was taken to jail and booked for 3rd degree assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, DUI, chemical test refusal, an open container and making an improper turn.
