Lincoln Airpark Geared Up For 4-Days of Motorsports Action

By Chase Porter Sep 5, 2023 | 12:11 PM

Lincoln Airpark is transforming again this week… into a motorsports hotbed.

The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is bringing its annual Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships back to Nebraska’s capital city. Spectator admission is completely free each day.

The four-day competition, running Sept. 5-8, is reportedly netting more than 1,300 entries this year, with action running from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Spectators will see a wide range of automobiles, from Porsches to McLarens, Toyotas to Hondas, Corvettes to Mustangs, even special-built cars, will zip around a temporary racing circuit in Lincoln’s Airpark all week.

The event entry gate can be found on NW 36th St. between W. Mathis St. and W. Luke St.

Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras and take pictures. The entire car-prep paddock is open to everyone, with both cars and drivers accessible to answer questions or pose for photos.

This will be the 50th running of Solo Nationals, and the 14th time in a row the event has been held in Lincoln. Back in 2017 at Lincoln Airpark, the event set a record of 1,317 entrants – cementing it as one of the largest motorsport participant events in the world.

SCCA Solo is a competitive motorsport activity where orange traffic cones are used to create a twisting miniature racecourse in a large parking lot or on taxiways of an airport. One at a time, competitors traverse the temporary circuit to see who can be quickest without hitting any cones or going off course. Drivers range from those using daily commuter cars to professional racers wheeling purpose- built vehicles. There is even a special class for those competing in race karts.
