Lincoln Police say they are pleased with the first day results of the 12 Days of Hope Mario Herrera Blood Drive.  The drive began on Thursday, on year after LPD officer Mario Herrera was shot in the line of duty.  He died 12 days later.

The goal of Thursday’s drive was to collect 52 units of blood.  68 units were collected, which is 131% of the goal.  “We knew it would be a success but this far exceeded our expectations,” Officer Erin Spilker says. Out of the 71 donors that came to the blood drive, 19 were first time donors.

“We know the rest of this event will continue prove how much Mario meant to our community,” Spilker says. The drive continues through September 7th.   Visit ncbb.org  to make an appointment or find a drive near you.

The next public drive will be in Omaha at the Omaha Police Officer’s Association on Saturday, August 28th from 9am-2pm.
