As the number of COVID-19 cases continues to climb Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts on Thursday declared a hospital staffing emergency in the state.

Ricketts says he is issuing an executive order that will waive licensing requirements for hospitals.  This will also for the hiring of retired or inactive nurses in hospitals.   The order also waives licensing requirements for hospitals and defers continuing education requirements.

In addition, Ricketts said he will issue a directed health measure on Monday that limits elective surgeries that can be delayed 4-12 weeks or longer.
