The Lincoln Children’s Zoo has a pair of new residents.  The zoo announced Wednesday morning that twin red pandas were born at at the zoo on June 25 to second-time mom, Tián and first-time dad, Rowan.

“Both cubs are male and are healthy and thriving,” the zoo said in a Facebook statement.  “The birth is incredibly important to animal conservation efforts because red pandas are an endangered species that face a very high risk of extinction in the wild.”

William and Robin are currently spending time behind-the-scenes with mom in nest boxes created to replicate the nests that red panda mothers would create for their cubs in the wild. Guests will not see them on exhibit until sometime this fall since they will continue to spend time in their nest boxes as they grow and develop.
