The man accused of setting an apartment on fire at 15th and Hilltop is out of the hospital and behind bars.
39 year old Veonta Hopper was transported from from the hospital to the jail around 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 24th. He was booked in reference to two warrants for 1st degree sexual assault of a child. These warrants were issued following an investigation that started June 18th, 2020. Two victims reported being sexually assaulted by Hopper. One girl reported she was sexually assaulted from 2016 to 2019 when she was between the ages of 4 and 7. Another 15 year old girl reported being sexually assaulted by Hopper in 2017.
Hopper had been hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
The Fugitive Task Force first contacted Hopper on Monday around 9:30 to arrest him for the warrants.
One LPD officer hospitalized for smoke inhalation Monday was also released and is back on the job today.
