By Tom Stanton Aug 10, 2023 | 11:35 AM

A 67 year old electrician ended up in a Lincoln hospital after being shocked while working on a transformer in Hickman Wednesday afternoon. Lancaster County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the contractor only turned off two of the three underground circuits before making contact with the transformer near 3rd and Main Street.

“He accidentally touched the transformer and received a 7,200 volt shock that knocked him to the ground and made him unconscious,” Houchin says.  The man was hired to work on the transformer due to power outage issues in Hickman.

Houchin says the electricity went into the man’s arm and out his knees. He was airlifted to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln for treatment of  expected to survive.
