Lincoln Police arrested a 16 and 18 year old after stealing a car near 25th and ‘W’ just before midnight Monday. Sergeant Chris Vollmer says a 27 year old woman told officers she was sitting in her parked Ford Taurus with her two children and sister with the window down when an unknown male walked up and claimed to be armed.
He then ordered all of them out of the vehicle and got in and took off. “A short time later an officer near 22nd & O Street observed the Taurus eastbound on O Street,” Vollmer says. “The officer followed the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop near 27th & J Street.” He says the driver kept going and eventually lost control and crashed into a parked car near 26th and Randolph.
The pair got out and took off running. Vollmer says the 16-year-old driver was taken into custody with the assistance of a Taser. A Police K-9 helped tracked down the 18 year old passenger. He was arrested for aiding and abetting robbery and obstructing a police officer.
The 16-year-old driver was medically cleared at the hospital and taken to the Youth Assessment Center where he was booked for robbery, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, resisting arrest and obstructing a police officer.
