Lincoln Fire and rescue officials say eggs cooking on the stove sparked a fire yesterday near 21st and J that caused about $16,000 in damage. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says four people were in the house when the fire broke out.

“It went up and caught the side of the wall on fire,” Lierman says.  She says the residents tried to use the garden hose to put out the flames that had extended outside the house through the stove vent.

She says the fire caused $15,000 damage to the house and another $1,000 to the contents.  She says the fire should serve as a reminder to all residents.   “Check your hood vents and exhaust fans for grease build-up and that will help prevent the fire from spreading.”

She says also make sure you don’t keep paper towels and other items that can easily catch fire near the stove.
