A 32-year-old Bellevue man is behind bars following a multi-county pursuit that began near Lincoln around 1:00 Friday morning. The Nebraska State patrol received a report of a motorcycle driving recklessly on I-80 near Lincoln.
A trooper spotted the motorcycle driving eastbound at 95 miles per hour on I-80 near mile marker 417. The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the rider accelerated and the pursuit began. The patrol says as the motorcycle continued eastbound toward Omaha, the Omaha Police Department’s helicopter took over the pursuit.
As the motorcycle reached the Omaha city limits, troopers attempted another traffic stop, but the motorcycle rider fled a second time. Troopers did not pursue as the helicopter continued to track the motorcycle from the air.
OPD officers were directed to an area near 105th and Q streets where the motorcycle came to a stop. Robert Long was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving under the influence – 3rd offense, no motorcycle endorsement and traffic violations.
He was booked into the Cass County Jail.
