Lancaster County COVID 19 Risk Dial Moves Higher

The COVID-19 Risk Dial for Lancaster County moves up a notch in the “orange” or high risk category.

Health officials confirm 89 new cases today bringing the weekly total so far to 430 individuals.  Last week’s total was 340.  The community total is now at 4,397 and the number of deaths remains at 20.  Recoveries  are up from 1,876 to 1,972

The Lancaster County positivity rate is now up from 7.2% to 7.2%.  The Nebraska rate remains at 9.5%

There are 32 people hospitalized with the virus. That is the highest number reported since June 6th.   Lincoln hospital ICU capacity dipped to just under 30%.  Health officials are monitoring this situation carefully.

Health officials report this is a new high for weekly cases and largely due to the return of students to Lincoln.  About 50% of the cases are students attending UNL.  Nebraska Wesleyan reports 53 confirmed cases.  About 30% of the cases in students are between 18 and 19 years of age.
