A 23 year old Lincoln is facing forgery charges after opening an account at Union Bank and Trust on July 2nd. Police say Jalen Roundtree deposited three checks into an account that were fraudulent.
The owner of the account was contacted and said she did not authorize any payments to Roundtree and she had closed that account in 2018. The checks were made out for $1,450, $1,450, and $9,200 and deposited into Roundtree’s account between June 19th and June 22nd. Roundtree then made numerous purchases and withdraws following the deposits.
Roundtree was located in the 2300 block of S 16th Street around 3 a.m. on August 17th following a disturbance investigation. He was taken into custody and booked for felony theft by deception and 2nd degree forgery.
Lincoln Police remind residents to dispose of unused checks even if you have closed the account. Disposing them by shredding prevents the use of these checks for criminal purposes.
