Lincoln Fire and Rescue Crews were kept busy as they responded to three calls of homes being struck by lightning Saturday morning. Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the first one happened just before 9:00 south of 40th and Old Cheney.
“There was a hole in the roof and there was not much damage inside,” Lierman says. Crews put a tarp over it to prevent any further water damage. The specific amount of damage is not known. The worst damage was reported minutes later at a home on 90th south of Pioneers Blvd. “A 4 x4 hole in the roof and some water leaking when they put the fire out.” Lierman says damage was estimated at $5,000.
She says the third home near Rockwood Lane and Birch Hollow Drive had a small hole in the ceiling after an old satellite dish was struck. Damage was estimated at $500.
