Wednesday’s heat topped out officially at the Lincoln Airport at 98 degrees but with the humidity above 50% all day, the heat index hit 117 late in the afternoon.
Heat index values of 105 to 110 are forecast Thursday will top out in the 105 to 115-degree range Friday. Slightly cooler readings are expected this weekend with a return to 100 to 110 early next week.
Showers and storms are possible Thursday evening/night and again on Friday evening/night. A few storms could become strong to severe with damaging hail and damaging wind being the primary concerns.
