LPD Investigating Additional Cases Involving Fraudulent Student

By Tom Stanton Jul 24, 2023 | 2:34 PM

Lincoln Police continue continue to follow leads in the case of 26-year-old Zachary Scheich, who posed as a 17 year old  high school student at two different high schools last year.  Scheich was arrested last Thursday for sexual assault using an electronic device and sex trafficking of a minor.

“Since Thursday we have received dozens of calls with tips and information,” Investigator Scott Parker says.  “It appears there are more possible victims.”  Due to the ongoing investigation Parker couldn’t say it the tips were from parents or students.  He says if you have information about the investigation call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.

According to court documents Scheich, who went by the name Zak Hess, communicated with girls as young as 13 to 14-year of age through text messages off school property.  Last Friday LPS officials said that Scheich provided fraudulent copies of his birth certificate, immunization records, physicals and transcripts and was able to enroll at Lincoln Northwest and Southeast.  He only attended 54 days of classes at both schools combined.

“This is a very serious situation and we are concerned that this happened. Once it was reported to us that an adult was posing as a student, we turned it over to law enforcement to begin investigating,” said LPS Superintendent Dr. Paul Gausman, “Our focus now is to help police with their investigation and encourage anyone with information that will help with this investigation to contact the Lincoln Police Department.”
