The City of Lincoln is inching closer to having a youth sports complex near 1st and Cornhusker. On the Dan Parsons show Thursday Visit Lincoln executive director Jeff Maul said they will break ground on the $27 million baseball and softball complex in August.
“We really want to get this thing done by the end of 2024,” which is aggressive” Maul says. “We hope to be open in earnest for the spring of 2025.” Maul says they will be be putting down turf for the five fields that kids will play on. The complex will also be home to Nebraska Wesleyan’s baseball and softball teams and one field will be dedicated to Homer’s Heroes, a baseball program for those with special needs.
City officials say the complex will draw tournaments from all over the region, bringing thousands of visitors to Lincoln each year.
