Severe thunderstorms caring winds up to 70 miles per hour and pea sized hail surged through the Lincoln-Lancaster County area early Wednesday morning, rendering about 2,500 residents without power.
Storms started to move into the area around 6:00 A.M. and persisted until about 8:00 A.M.
Strong winds brought down elder tree branches and by-standing powerlines around Lincoln, damage to a breaker amplified issues.
T&D Construction Supervisor with LES, Tyler Baker, “Larger, older trees, they don’t take that wind very well. Had a couple of them snap that took down some overhead lines. A couple of service drops to some overhead customers. We had a breaker operation that caused a little bit larger outage. Crews were able to get those fixed relatively quick.”
This level of outage did not intimidate response crews, “Typically, we can have that taken care of in a pretty short amount of time. As long as we don’t have any major damage to the pole structure itself, the lines are pretty easy to put back up,” said Baker.
Nearly all customers are back online at this time.
