Lincoln has been ranked as 2023’s 6th least stressed city in America, according to a WalletHub Study comparing 182 U.S. cities across 39 key metrics, ranging from average weekly work hours to the unemployment rate to divorce and suicide rates.

Everybody gets stressed. Staying clam and tranquil has become uniquely challenging in recent years, with the COVID-19 pandemic, high inflation, and spiking homicide rates… times have been worrisome for many of us. However, stress is unavoidable. A little bit of stress here and there can actually be beneficial. Managing this stress can be crucial to our daily well-being and productivity.

Lincoln performed exceptionally across several determining factors for stress, landing a total score of 29.64. In the context of this survey, scoring high implies high stress, and lower implies less stress. Lincoln came in the bottom of the 182 cities, ranking at 177th.  More specifically, Lincoln ranked 149th in Health & Safety Stress. This category considers factors such as share of adults with fair or poor mental and physical health, access to medical services, crime rates, and numbers of mass shootings. In Work Stress, Lincoln landed at 165th, this category focuses on average weekly work hours, job security, income growth, and job satisfaction ranking.

Lincoln’s most stressful metric was Financial Stress, landing at 142nd. Stressful financial metrics analyzed were housing affordability, food insecurity, median household income and debts.

Lincolnites seem to be least stressed out by our families, being ranked in 177th place among the 182 cities analyzed. The Family Stress metric analyzes the divorce rate (of which Lincoln ranked 156th), share of single parent households, and availability and cost of childcare.
