Lincoln Fire and Rescue’s Bomb Squad was called to the Hall of Justice just before noon on Wednesday to investigate a suspicious package.
Battalion Chief Jim Bopp says someone brought a briefcase into the building to talk with Lincoln Police. The briefcase was believed to be suspicious and it was taken outside and placed in the grass along 9th Street.
“Our bomb technician came on site and determined it was worth taking a look at so initially they shot it with a portable x-ray,” Bopp says. “They then felt the safest thing to do what they call a water cannon shot. They shot it to open it safely from a distance so no one would get hurt.”
He says no explosives or anything suspicious was found inside. 9th Street was shut down for more than an hour during the investigation.
